Summer 2012 Events Recap
Summer 2012 has been packed with one event to another. With so much that has been going on in Burien we thought you would like a fun recap of some of the events from this summer.

iris Our friends at the Highline Historical Society turned out yet another amazing Garden Tour. With many beautiful gardens to experience, including a rain garden and a special visit from Governor Christine Gregoire, the event was a wonderful success.
Relay Luminaries Our friends at Relay for Life raised tens of thousands of dollars, chalked up many miles on the track in a 24 hours. "Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease."
Father's Day Car Show, Strawberry Festival drew hundreds of people to take part in carnival rides, artisan craft fair & festival, a chili cook-off and around two hundred cars. Congratulations to the Mark Restraunt and Bar for winning Peoples Choice in the Chili Cook-off and the Scooby Doo themed Mystery Machine van winning Peoples Choice at the car show. This is a great annual event put on by the City of Burien, Parks & Recreation and Discover Burien.
Miss Burien Hydroplane
We at Discover Burien had an exciting time in annual 4th of July Parade. Thanks to sponsors from Cox Financial, Prudential NW Realty, B-Town Blog and Collins Chiropractic we were able to bring the Miss Burien Hydroplane back to Burien for the day. We hope to make this an annual tradition, we love having our historic name sake hydro back in town!
guitar Music in the Park brought out families, neighbors and friends to enjoy live music in a beautiful Burien park on summer evenings, Wednesdays and Thursday's in July and August. Look for this community in the summer of 2013.
Dane Pie Joust A messy good time was had by all at the 2nd annual, 2012 World Championship Pie Joust event. We even had our friends from King 5's Evening Magazine join us for the mid evil mess. Check out their great coverage of the event HERE.

When time and resources are tight, online marketing is one of the best ways to boost sales for any business. But the list of tools and techniques can be overwhelming. And should you spend your tie tweeting or blogging? In this focused-but-fun presentation,  you'll gain valuable advice from Whitney Keyes, professor of marketing communications at Seattle University. From Tacoma, she was raised in a family of artists and started her career managing the family's art business, then went on to manage global marketing campaigns for Microsoft, and presently consults with small businesses as well as corporate CEOs. She'll share insights and examples from her more than 20 years working in PR and marketing, included in her new book, Propel: Five Ways to Amp Up Your Marketing and Accelerate Business (Career Press).
